Girls Getting to Know Girls

Each March since 2007, delegations of students from Chatham Hall, a preeminent independent girls’ school in southern Virginia, has visited South Africa, Cuba and India. Chatham Hall’s committed, dedicated girls partner with local peers on creative, meaningful service projects – and otherwise engage cross-culturally in rich, textured ways designed to build relationships. The girls and their faculty chaperons learn intentionally of the 3 countries’ histories, cultures, and religious traditions. All visits are curriculum-linked, and carefully designed to elicit a depth of understanding.

This March, students and faculty visited India. From the road – in Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and rural Uttar Pradesh – Martha Griswold, Chatham Hall’s Academic Dean, offered colorful perspectives and heartfelt observations around that country’s religious, cultural, historic, and service traditions.
