Global Professional Learning on Your Campus
Typically, our themed professional learning session takes place on a day that your school sets aside for all-faculty involvement. We partner with school leadership to select a theme – a theme, perhaps, that you plan to pursue broadly and intensively, through the grade levels and across the academic disciplines in the school year to come.
Your school may wish to pursue any number of alternate themes; consider the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for ideas! Alterra stands ready to deliver a professional learning session on a theme of your choosing, from the global space.
Professional Learning & the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
In June 2021, we partnered with school leaders at Ashley Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. Ashley Hall had decided that, in 2021-2022, as a school community they would consider water – water scarcity, flooding, water & gender, water & conflict, et cetera. A study of water would be seeded throughout the curriculum; students would grapple with the challenges. At Ashley Hall’s request, we delivered a powerful session involving expert voices from Australia, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
An Afro-Brazilian Experience
This is an extraordinary percussion demonstration by Fabrício Mota, an educator and musician, and Viviam Caroline de Jesus Queirós, a member of Banda Didá, an all-female Afro Brazilian Olodum band.
Boston Public Schools Series
This series, hosted in partnership with Boston Public Schools, features sessions on Finland, Ghana and Brazil.
