Alterra is a Washington DC-based group of curriculum consultants. We promote a nuanced understanding of global trends, events, and perspectives at schools, universities, and professional associations throughout North America.
We plan impactful, active learning models for students, teachers, and school administrators – and we collaborate closely with you to carry them out. We listen to your needs, and propose ways to advance global competence consistent with your mission.
We consult in the classroom, design courses, and plan themed, curriculum-linked country visits. Our platforms include traditional workshops, weekend retreats, service learning, film & media festivals, webinars, and ‘games for change’.
We maintain a network of contacts on 6 continents, 21 years in the making. On campus, online, and overseas, we connect you with the world. We want your institution to think and act critically about this new century’s epic challenges, and we welcome your inquiry about our services.
Professional Development For Educators
During Academic Year 2020-2021, our seven Global Field Experiences represent a broad, far-reaching assessment of the major challenges facing our planet – from human rights to climate change, conflict resolution to technological innovation. For the first time, this year’s experiences will be virtual!
Experiential Learning For Students
We offer four products to stimulate student interest in global trends and perspectives: Online conferences with foreign peers, special campus leadership projects, curriculum-linked global service, and course capstones overseas. Most experiences this year will be virtual.
International Student Recruitment
Alterra supports school admissions officers to recruit and enroll international students. Our team collaborates with a range of public, private, and education-sector stakeholders in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and elsewhere to pair students seeking a rigorous stateside academic experience with welcoming boarding school environments.
